What is a Clubhouse?

A Clubhouse is a community-based space designed to support the recovery of individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI). Each Clubhouse provides a restorative environment for those whose lives have been profoundly impacted by mental illness. The concept of a Clubhouse—pioneered by Fountain House in the 1940s—is rooted in the belief that community is therapy.

Within each Clubhouse, an intentional community is formed where members and staff work side by side to manage all daily operations. Members also have access to crisis intervention services when needed and are connected to resources that support their basic needs, including employment, education, housing, relationship building, and daily meals.

Our Mission

The Escondido Clubhouse is an empowering community for adults living with a mental health diagnosis where members participate in meaningful work, highlighting their individual strengths. Centered around dignity and mutual support, it creates opportunities to build skills, confidence, and respect as co-workers, neighbors, and friends, allowing members to achieve their full potential.
